Residents of the Library District may get a Library card by bringing two forms of identification with a current address to the Circulation Desk, where they will be asked to fill out an application. (One photo ID preferred.) Children ages 5-15 must have a parent or legal guardian with them to sign the application in the presence of a staff member. Patrons may use their valid Cary Area Library cards at most other Illinois public libraries. As a member of the North Suburban Library System, the Library is able to interlibrary loan materials for patrons from over 250 multi-type libraries in the north suburban area.

The Cary Area Public Library District has a collection that includes approximately 97,000 books, 4,000 DVDs, 2,500 CDs/Cassettes, 2,000 audiobooks (CD and cassette), 1,000 LARGE TYPE books, 300 circulating software titles, and over 200 periodical titles. 19 Personal Computers are available for use by Library patrons. All PCs have Windows XP, and all have Office 2000 installed as well as internet access and reference links. All of our computers are filtered for safe internet surfing. Black & White& ColorLaser printers are available for printing in Adult and Youth Services, pages are $.10 each.

- Library materials may be renewed over the phone or through our website through our on-line catalog IBistro. Click "My Account" where you are asked to review your account, renew materials, or change your password. You will then be asked to enter your library card barcode and password.

- NSLS interlibrary loan is available through the Reference Desk if you're looking for an item we don't own.
- Reciprocal borrowing: The Cary Library card is honored by the libraries in the North Suburban Library System and other libraries in the state of Illinois.
- Reference service is available during library hours.
- Summer/Winter reading programs.
- Various children's programming is scheduled throughout the year.
- Youth Services offers storytime sessions for toddlers, preschoolers, and families.
- Adult book discussion groups.

damaged or lost items
Patrons will be charged replacement cost for damaged or lost materials and are unable to check out any new materials until the replacement cost is paid.
The Cary Library does not accept materials in lieu of payment.
general rules
- A library card must be presented to check out all Library materials.
- Every patron must use his/her own library card and is responsible for all items checked out on his/her card, and for all fines incurred.
- If a library card is lost, notify the Cary Area Library immediately. There is a charge of $3.00 to replace a lost card. No items will be loaned until this amount is paid.
- Please advise the Library of any change in address or telephone number.
- When dropping your books off in the Library's outside book drop, please keep your library card. Fines on late items will be recorded and may be paid at a later date.
- Books with a reserve list may not be renewed. There is also no renewal on overdue materials, after a patron has been sent a notice.
